Today, Tuesday, September 30, 2025, marks the final day of our 2025 harvest with the harvest of our Petit Verdot. A look back at the harvest of a vintage unlike any other.
The 2025 harvest at Château de l’Hospital will remain unique in the estate’s recent history. After a particularly hot and dry summer, the welcome rains of late August and September allowed the grapes to regain volume and achieve an ideal balance, resulting in a vintage unlike any other. This vintage promises to be fruity, concentrated, and intense in aromas, a wonderful reward after a demanding season.
The 2025 vintage was very sunny, so the grapes were healthy, with stable and very good health. What did they look like in the rows? This summer’s sunshine allowed us to have a very healthy and advanced harvest. The bunches were beautiful and well-aerated on the vines.
After tasting our berries in the vineyard, we regularly tasted our berries, and we saw the skins refine, and the grapes we tasted were very fruity. We started harvesting once the technological and phenolic maturity seemed optimal;
For an organic Graves wine that faithfully reflects its terroir, the timing of the harvest is crucial. At Château de l’Hospital, we don’t rely solely on technical analyses or weather forecasts: it’s the grapes themselves that dictate the harvest date. Their taste, the maturity of their skins, juice, and seeds guide the decision. This sensory method guarantees a harvest at the perfect time, respectful of each grape variety and its potential.
Once harvested, the grapes enter the winery. Château de l’Hospital uses truncated pyramidal concrete vats, a choice that allows for gentle and precise vinification. Their shape promotes harmonious extraction of aromas and natural micro-oxygenation, essential for preserving the freshness and finesse of the wines. This innovative tool illustrates our commitment to producing organic Graves wines that combine tradition, authenticity, and modernity.
This meticulous organization transforms the harvest and the work in the winery into a veritable choreography, where everyone knows their role to ensure optimal grape quality and a smooth winemaking process. As we like to say at the estate, “the vine sets the pace, and the entire team follows with precision.”
